The Zutons Tired of Hanging Around (Deltasonic)
Alright, for all those who have never heard of The Zutons, I’ll let you in on a little secret: you have. The band broke into popular culture after their song “Pressure Point,” (off of their debut album Who Killed…..The Zutons) was used in a jeans commercial that was played ad nausea. Their debut was not a hit here in the states, but did draw some critical acclaim from all over, including a 7.8 from Pitchfork. I was interested in where the band would go after such a uniquely different debut; and to answer my own question, they got stronger. Tired of Hanging Around is probably one of the most well-produced and uproariously entertaining/toe-tapping albums to come out this year. From the very beginning, the tempo is breakneck and infectious as hell. There are tracks on this album that confuse me, because I have no idea how they aren’t in heavy rotation on every alt-rock station in the country.
