Newmusicnation.com is a daily blog featuring album reviews, music news info/commentary, artist interviews, downloadable MP3s, streaming video, regularly updated Standings for the Top 20 Albums of the Year and playlist information/reviews from college radio directors and DJs across the country.
The site also serves as a resource and database on music from this entire decade. Dave Powers has written music reviews for underground Internet radio station 3wk.com and his former website, davepowersmusic.com, throughout the ‘00s. Plus, he’s made best-of playlists in a variety of genres every year and written a year-end Top 20 Albums column. All are documented and fully searchable on this site.
How can this help you? One example: Pick an artist you like and type their name into the search box. The results will give you a list of titles (of blog posts). Each post should contain information that may help you discover more music from the artist in your search. It could also lead you to music from similar artists…whether they end up on the same genre-specific mix or if they’re cited as Playlist Partners and/or referred to in a review. Typing in the name of a favorite record label or genre should lead you to similar findings. (Note: In the search box, you can search “All,” the entire site. But you can also search the six specific sections of the site: Reviews, News Notes, College Radio Buzz, Top 20 Albums Standings, Playlist Picks of the ‘00s and Elite Albums of the ‘00s.)
Another way to navigate the site is by clicking on the “Filed In” category tags contained in every post. Each of these links will give you a list of posts in that category.
With any luck, you’ll find newmusicnation.com an informative and enjoyable experience.
